New engines for marine professionals

Volvo Penta continues to broaden the engine program for marine professional applications. The latest additions are the D5 and D7, a series of five- and seven-litre marine diesels for heavy and medium-heavy commercial operation and marine auxiliary systems.

Volvo Penta also introduces the new D12 Heavy Duty - a 12-litre marine diesel.

TAMD75 - the latest diesel engine for leisure craft

The TAMD75 is a further development of the TAMD74, which has been a best-seller in its power range for a number of years. Among other features, the new 7-litre engine has an improved injection system and more efficient charged-air cooling, as well as an enhanced EDC system.

A new folding propeller

Volvo Penta launches a folding propeller with four blades, thus creating the conditions for even better performance, particularly for larger sailboats with more powerful engines up to approx. 120 h.p.

Tough task for engines in Volvo Ocean Race Title

Volvo Penta's engines really had to work hard during the recently completed Volvo Ocean Race sailing competition. For example, the winning boat, Illbruck, used its auxiliary engine for more than 380 hours during the race.

This is not as strange as it may sound. There are actually two engines on board - a propulsion engine, which can only be used in emergency situations during the race, and an auxiliary engine that is used to produce electricity and fresh water onboard and to drive the ballast water pumps.

Growing business segment

This year the economic growth rate in China is extremely high. Enormous investments in new infrastructure have led to a major boom in the construction and civil engineering sector.

As a result of this trend, concrete pumps have become a growing business segment for Volvo Penta's industrial engine operations in China.
