China is a growing market that is becoming increasingly important for the Sweden-based engine manufacturer Volvo Penta. The company is well established in China as a supplier of diesel engines, primarily for industrial applications but also for increasing numbers of applications for commercial marine traffic

Volvo Penta’s QL (Quality Line) accessories range is now being extended with completely new deckwash pumps for efficient cleaning onboard, new and more efficient water pressure pumps, and a full range of shaft-mounted bronze propellers.

Volvo Penta is now launching a folding propeller with four blades, thus creating the conditions for even better performance, particularly for larger sailboats with more powerful engines. The new propeller will be available for engines up to approx 120 horsepower.

Staffan Jufors, President of Volvo Penta has been named “Leader of the Year” by the Swedish business weekly, Affärsvärlden. Staffan Jufors was selected for the award for his excellent leadership of Volvo Penta over the past four years.

Volvo Penta has signed an agreement with the Italian power boat manufacturer Sessa Marine regarding deliveries of approximately 1,000 engines and drive systems over three years. The total order value amounts to approximately SEK 100 million.

Volvo Penta has secured an order from Saudi Arabia for a total of 900 diesel engines. The total value of the order is approximately MSEK 200.

A new website focused on accessories for leisure craft was recently opened. QL – Quality Line - launches their new website, including a complete presentation of the QL range of products, dealers and other information. The website also contains a section dealing with frequently asked questions where boat owners can find the answers regarding the various types of QL products designed to make boating easier and more comfortable.

TAMD75 is the name of Volvo Penta's latest diesel engine for leisure craft. The TAMD75 is a further development of the TAMD74, which has been a best-seller in its power range for a number of years. Among other features, the new 7-liter engine has an improved injection system and more efficient charged-air cooling, as well as an enhanced EDC system. The result: improved properties, lower fuel consumption, reduced exhaust emissions and better operating characteristics, including less sensitivity to heavier loads and a head sea.

In addition to the TAMD75, Volvo Penta is also launching products that include improved gasoline engines for the 2003 model year as well as new 5 and 7-liter low-revolution diesel engines.

Contrary to what one might think, Volvo Penta’s engines really had to work hard during the recently completed Volvo Ocean Race sailing competition. For example, the winning boat, illbruck, used its auxiliary engine for more than 380 hours during the race.
