Göran Gummeson has been appointed the new President of Volvo Penta. He succeeds Staffan Jufors, who was earlier appointed President of Volvo Trucks.

Volvo Penta is now launching an entirely new Internet site that will enable customers to locate their nearest Volvo Penta dealer, regardless of the customer’s location.

Volvo Penta has commenced delivery of specially adapted 7-liter fire-pump engines to Iran. Thanks to a higher number of revolutions, the diesel engines generate the same output as considerably larger engines.

Now running in Western Australia’s Mid West towns of Cue, Meekatharra, Sandstone, Wiluna and Yalgoo are a total of 24 power generation diesel engines in multiple parallel operations, supplied by Seapower Australia.

The current president of Volvo Trucks, Jorma Halonen, 55, will assume the position of Executive Vice President and Deputy CEO of the Volvo Group as of November 1, 2004. He will work parallel with Lennart Jeansson - who currently holds this position - through mid-year 2005 at which time Lennart Jeansson, 63, is retiring

This year’s product news from Volvo Penta includes the new 9-liter D9 diesel engine and the world’s highest-power diesel engine program to date for sterndrives – the new D6-350 and the D4-260. On the accessories side, noteworthy new items include an entirely new system for trim planes and a silent, belt-driven bow thruster.

The QL Boat Trim System is an entirely new solution, for which a patent application has been submitted, for adjusting a boat’s trim angle. Briefly, the new system consists of a vertical blade – an interceptor – mounted on the transom, that can be moved vertically down into the water stream. Its performance characteristics are at least as good as for conventional trim tabs, and it has the added advantages of faster response, less drag, simpler installation and a minimized service requirement.

Volvo Penta’s new D9 diesel engine offers very high performance characteristics combined with low exhaust and noise emissions as well as minimal vibrations resulting in a high degree of onboard comfort. Available in two power output alternatives, 500 and 575 horsepower, the Volvo Penta D9 is a powerful alternative for flybridge boats, sportcruisers and sport fishers of about 40 to as much as 50 feet in length. Due to its compact format, the D9 does not occupy much more space than the Volvo Penta 7-liter TAMD75, but it offers almost 100 horsepower more and 30% greater cylinder volume.

Volvo Penta is now launching three truly high performance diesel engines: the D6-350 DP, the D6-350 DPR – which with their 350 horsepower are the most powerful diesel engines with sterndrive in the world – and the D6-370, the inboard version that delivers an additional 20 horsepower. Using the very latest technology, the new engines combine speed and performance with low noise and vibrations as well as really low exhaust emissions.

The Volvo Penta D4 was introduced last year with a power output of 210 hp. With its high performance characteristics and first-rate environmental properties, it became highly successful. Volvo Penta is now introducing the next version for Duoprop drive and reverse gear, in which the power output has been raised to 260 horsepower. This combined with the compact external dimensions makes it possible to exploit the very good performance characteristics of the engine even in confined engine spaces.
