Volvo Penta’s compact D3 sport diesel is fast, lightweight, quiet and clean. It has taken the boating industry by storm since it was launched two years ago. Volvo Penta is now launching a new top model in the D3-series, a powerful 190-hp engine available with sterndrive or as an inboard engine.

With its new D12-800, Volvo Penta has entered the 800-hp class. D12-800 is the first launch in the new generation of D-12 engines that, in addition to increased output are also cleaner and stronger.

Volvo Penta is introducing five new engines for sailing and displacement boats: D1-13, 20 and 30, D2-40 and D4-180. All of the new engines feature low rpms, powerful torque, freshwater cooling, powerful alternators and emissions that complies with the emission requirements introduced in the EU and USA as from 2006.

The QL Boat Trim System, which was launched last year, has been highly popular with boaters. Sales to date this year already exceed the annual sales of the traditional trimming tabs.

Volvo Penta is providing the engine power on board the unique newbuilding, the East Indianman ship Götheborg. A total of five diesel engines from Volvo Penta provide the machine plant in the well-known sailing ship.

Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS), a revolutionary new drive system for boats, has been presented the 2005 Volvo Technology Award. The award is worth a total of SEK 200,000 and goes to the group of Volvo Penta and Volvo Powertrain engineers responsible for developing the IPS drive system. The IPS innovation is the largest breakthrough for the company since the Aquamatic stern-drive system was launched in 1959.

Since its unveiling two years ago, Volvo Penta’s telematic services under the SeaKey brand have contributed to increased security at sea in North America. But the system has also been used in solving a crime.

The Denizer is a new ocean fishing vessel with modern equipment, built and launched in Turkey. Propulsion for the ship is provided by Volvo Penta’s most powerful diesel engine – a Volvo Penta D65A MT. With strong power performance already at low rpms, the engine is well suited for a fishing boat weighing more than 240 tons.
