Volvo is investing SEK 1.4 billion to develop a new 16-liter diesel engine. This is the first step in the consolidation of Volvo’s engine program following the acquisition of Renault VI/Mack.

Volvo Penta has concluded an agreement covering delivery of boat engines to the Swedish boat manufacturers Nimbus and Storebro and Norwegian Windy. The three-year contract is valued at a total of about SEK 400 M for Volvo Penta.

For decades Volvo Penta has been in a strong position as a world-leading supplier of engines and transmission systems for marine use. Through the launching of the new D12 engine and the new 4.7 liter engines for mobile industrial applications, Volvo is now making major efforts to strengthen its positions in the industrial segment.

A totally new electronic engine control system and unique possibilities for integrating the engine with the application are the major highlights when Volvo Penta now launches its new-generation diesel-powered engines – the D12 series.

Volvo Penta launches new diesel-powered 4-7 liter industrial engines for mobile applications. The new compact, powerful engines have many application areas. The new industrial engines, whose rated power range is between 66 to 195 kW, are intended for all imaginable applications including materials-handling, construction and agricultural machinery. This launch represents a significant broadening of the Volvo Penta industrial engine range.

The added comfort of 220 V is more or less a standard in modern boats, as long as you are in port and connected to a shore power, that is. Of course there are DC-AC converters but these can rarely handle the power requirements from microwaves, vacuum cleaners etc. Now, the Volvo Penta 220 V Power System gives added freedom to the boat owner.

Boat thieves will have a hard time thanks to the new Volvo Penta Immobiliser for diesel engines. The system not only prevents every form of hot-wiring, it is also impossible to start the engine unless you have the personal remote control or correct personal code. Specially developed for use at sea, it is both safe and easy for the owner to use. The system and the remote control can also be used to control deck lights and different alarm functions.

Volvo Penta has received an order for an additional 220 industrial engines from Saudi Arabia.
