Volvo Penta IPS has been developed as the modern alternative for inboard installations. Efficiency is higher than in the case of the straight shaft and the difference increases at higher speeds.

A modern sportcruiser or flybridge yacht fitted

with a Volvo Penta IPS has about 30 % lower fuel consumption, and thus lower CO2 emissions, than an equivalent boat fitted with a straight shaft.

Furthermore, the sound level is far lower; in the helm station, the experienced sound level can be 50 % lower.
