1996 - Volvo Penta railpac

Rail propulsion is a highly specialized sector for industrial power. Together with other companies in the Volvo Group, Volvo Penta has developed a complete system for powering trains taking full advantage of Volvo Penta's EDC system. Each engine comes complete with cooling system, hydraulics and a Geartronic gearbox. It propels one single bogie and is ready to install, simply needing a connection to the fuel system. Another feature is Volvo Penta's unique and patented load sharing system. Communicating with the train computer, many bogies can be connected to form a complete train and driven from the driving position. This EDC-controlled system delivers the same power from each engine in a multiple installation to give less wheel wear and lower fuel consumption.
