Volvo Penta signs agreement worth SEK 200 M29/08/2001
With brands such as Beneteau and Jeanneau, the Beneteau Group is the world’s largest producer of sailboats and Europe's largest producer of motorboats for leisure use. The company’s boats, which are marketed worldwide, are produced in its own plants in France and the US.
Volvo Penta has now signed a new one-year agreement with the Beneteau Group to supply diesel and gasoline engines for both sailboats and motorboats. The engines to be supplied will include, among other models, the successor to the Volvo Penta engines that will be installed in all the sailboats competing in the Volvo Ocean Race. The agreement also covers the diesel engines produced by Volvo Penta at its plants in Vara and Skövde, Sweden, and the gasoline-powered engines Volvo Penta produces in the US.
The Beneteau Group is an important customer for Volvo Penta in the marine leisure boat sector. The new agreement will guarantee deliveries during the coming year and further strengthen business relations between the companies, based on closer and more integrated cooperation in the product development area, among other gains.
The agreement, which also covers drive systems and accessories, is valued at a total of approximately SEK 200 M, confirming the strong sales increase achieved by Volvo Penta during the past few years. Volvo Penta’s sales has increased by some 70% over the past five years – a positive trend that has continued during the first half of the current year.
