Operational Uptime

Reliable Performance

Keeping your operation in motion

Day and night, year after year, our industrial engines safeguard the reliability of the operations in container terminals, hospitals, mines and a wide range of other applications all over the world. Our range of industrial off-road and power generation engines – paired with vital aftermarket support – are designed to maximise your uptime and to keep your business running day in day out under difficult conditions to maximise your productivity.

Proven engine technology

Our engines are a result of over 100 years of experience in the industry. They are built by using the experience of the entire Volvo Group, leveraging the collective knowhow from buses, marine propulsion systems, trucks and construction equipment all over the world. Reliable operation is proven in all climates – freezing and scorching, dry and wet – and in extreme working environments.

Extended service intervals

To maximise uptime most Volvo Penta Industrial engines can operate for up to 1,000 hours between service intervals. By using the corresponding service protocol, an approved Volvo Penta Oil Analysis and genuine Volvo Penta oil filters with the appropriate oil and fuel quality, productivity is increased, and uptime is maximised.

Operating under extreme conditions

External forces and dusty working conditions can put a strain on engine coolers, filters and harnesses. To minimise disruptions, we’ve developed optional heavy-duty packages – the heavy-duty cooling system, heavy-duty air filters and the heavy-duty wiring harness – to keep the engines running even under the harshest of demands. We can always offer the engine solution that best fits your requirements – no matter the location, climate or condition.

Unmatched load acceptance for genset engines

With Volvo Penta power generation engines, you have access to the full power output the second you start up the machine. For emergency/stand-by operations, usually intended as a backup in hospitals, nuclear plants or airports the rigorously tried and tested Volvo Penta engines are characterised by their ability to immediately start and instantly deliver the sufficient load acceptance. It fulfils G3 demands on all power nodes according to ISO8528-5.

The benefits of a common platform

All our engines share a common platform. Operations that need the use of several engines, of different sizes, can lower their costs considerably by using only Volvo Penta engines. The shared service and accessory parts simplify parts availability and results in shorter lead times.

Minimizing total cost of ownership

Over a five-year period, as much as 90–95% of your total cost of operation can be ascribed to fuel cost. Volvo Penta industrial engines are fuel efficient, and the fuel consumption can be further decreased in many ways. For example, fuel is saved thanks to the viscous fans and the easily installed start/stop technology can lower consumption by up to 15%.

Easy installation

The platform commonality includes engine layout, ECU, instruments, controls, connections and after-treatment systems. The lightweight and compact engines are easy to build into machines and equipment, even where space is limited. Installation is further simplified with vital engine parts located in the same places on the engine body.

A truly versatile range

Characterised by their high performance, reliability, fuel efficiency, and low emission levels, our engines for industrial applications are built to be versatile and can cover almost any application use within the industrial segment. The engines are developed to satisfy our OEMs’ demands, with low weight, compact designs, easy installation and optional equipment packages, making them perfect for numerous machine and equipment applications in a variety of industries.

Maximising the uptime for your application

In many industrial applications, every single minute of downtime costs money. However, by having good knowledge and making the right decisions to suit your operation, there is a lot you can do to minimise disruptions.

To further increase your understanding and readiness, we offer a quick guide of five critical areas where your understanding and choices have a direct impact.

  • Rightsizing – making the right choice for your application
  • Aftertreatment systems – how to limit regeneration
  • Aftermarket due diligence – the questions you need to ask your engine supplier
  • Operator training – optimal handling of every engine
  • Uptime in the future – get proactive through connectivity
