Our new Volvo Penta D16 IMO III engine gives you the power you need from a 16-liter marine engine while surpassing the requirements of the latest IMO Tier III emission regulations. The new D16 MH/MG IMO Tier III marine engine package is designed to sustain high backpressure while delivering high power, efficiency and low fuel consumption. The new D16 IMO III package is available for propulsion, auxiliary use and as a complete marine genset. Our proven Selective Catalytic Reduction technology (SCR) ensures a quiet compact exhaust aftertreatment system that’s easy to install. It couldn’t be simpler.

Highly efficient

Introduced in 2021, the IMO Tier III standards demand a 75% reduction of NOx emissions. Our new D16 IMO III engine package is the latest system in our Volvo Penta IMO III range which meets these standards. Our SCR technology enables you to reduce emissions beyond the requirements, while maintaining the same highly efficient combustion.

Increased power and maneuverability

Never compromise on power or performance. Enjoy high torque at low revs, along with powerful and easy maneuvering and rapid acceleration. We’re proud to meet the rigorous standards at sea by offering systems that guarantee excellent performance and unbeatable power, along with peace of mind.

Flexible SCR installation

Our new D16 IMO III package uses an SCR solution that is optimized for marine use. Exhaust gases are mixed with DEF (diesel exhaust fluid)/UREA (32 to 40 percent) in the SCR unit and there is a separate UREA injector pipe. The two alternative exhaust outlets have been designed for marine standards (6" bolt flanges), which allows for easy installation.

This is innovation you can trust. Our robust IMO Tier III solution for the D13 model has already proved itself in tough marine conditions, having undergone 65,000 hours of field-testing. We’ve been delivering IMO III compliant solutions since 2018, ensuring you can easily meet emissions regulations, now with a D16 IMO III package.

Complete system

It couldn’t be easier to meet the standards. Our D16 IMO III solution is a pre-assembled package – as close to a plug and play solution as you’ll find on the market. The complete system includes a DEF tank and sensors to check on the quantity and quality of UREA, plus a dosage pump and control unit. We’ve also reduced noise by up to 35 dBA for comfort on board.
