Heavy-duty push and pull job

Having served for 30 years in the Cold War, submarine CLAMAGORE was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 and was moved to the Patriots Point Marine Museum in Charleston, South Carolina.

The company Charleston Heavy Lift took on the job using three tugboats and a barge, all powered by Volvo Penta.

“Island Tide” and “Island Pilot” was powered by twin D16 engines and “Royal Engineer” by twin TAMD165. Even the crane-carrier barge was powered by Volvo Penta – a D9 industrial engine. The whole contract, which also included the move of WW2 destroyer USS Laffey, was completed with Volvo Penta power.
