Because winters in Turkey can be harsh, new-founded Turkish company Gener has developed a piece of equipment that protects crops from frost. It’s called FrostGuard V1, and it’s powered by a compact Volvo Penta 5-liter engine.
What can be seen above the orchard is a 10.5-meter pillar with a carbon-fiber propeller on top, rotating 360° to push down relatively warmer air that thaws out the frost. A single machine covers an area of 60,000 m2! Citrus, apples and other fruit can be grown through the winter, even when temperature drops below zero.
“We wanted our potential clients to have a good impression of our product at first glance as we are very new to this business. So, choosing a proven brand for the engine was very critical, which is why we decided to go with Volvo Penta,” says Abdullah Ongen, one of the owners of Gener.
The engine is a Volvo Penta TAD541VE, a 5-liter, compact engine that produces maximum power and torque at low rpm. Its common rail injection system provides excellent fuel efficiency, and in with its ease of installation and maintenance, the engine has a low cost of ownership.
