Travel in style, swim with tuna

Perhaps the most exciting marine eco-tourism experience of Europe today: a chance to swim with large schools of Bluefin tuna.

The Bluefin tuna (Thunnus Thynnus) is an endangered species. They appear in schools of hundreds and can dive to depths of 1,000 m. Adult specimens average 2–2.5 m long and weigh around 225–250 kg. Bluefins feed on smaller fish such as mackerel, sardines, herring and squid.

Tuna Tours, Tarragona, uses an exclusive catamaran specially designed for the tour.

The capacity of the catamaran is 69 passengers plus a crew of three. Powered by two 355-hp Volvo Penta D9MH engines, its top speed is 15 knots.

Characteristically, the D9 is robust, compact and smooth running, with low emission levels and low fuel consumption. The catamaran is designed and built by Drasanes Dalmau.
