Electromobility and Electric Power Solutions
At Volvo Penta we’re fully dedicated to innovations and new solutions – the development of sustainable power and electromobility. Working together with our customers, we leverage the knowledge and proven technology of the entire Volvo Group to move towards an electric power future. A future where we help our customers take the next step towards truly sustainable systems and solutions.
To meet both our customers’ needs and requirements as well as the demands of the industry’s future, our work with electromobility is based on full-system solutions. This modular approach is built on close collaboration – partnering with customers, evaluating the specific challenges at hand to develop a perfect fit for each project. Presently, we’re exploring – together with our customers – how to best help advance the benefits of electric power systems.
As a proud part of the Volvo Group, Volvo Penta has the benefit of the strength and experience from the development and technological innovations from all other companies within the group. Our collective ambition is to offer our customers the most competitive solutions when it comes to electrification, including batteries, electric motor drives and charging solutions. This ambition gathers strength from already proven electromobility technology from Volvo Trucks, Volvo Construction Equipment and Volvo Buses, one of the world leaders within advanced electrification and hybrid technology, with electric power concepts that have undergone hundreds of thousands of testing hours and real-world use.
We’ve chosen Gothenburg harbor for a test of our emobility platform system. In this busy environment, we’ve used the Volvo Group’s platform and added components in order to convert the driveline of a terminal tractor to be fully electric. This type of material handling vehicle normally operates in confined areas with good accessibility to an electrical charging infrastructure using known duty cycles, making it a perfect proof of concept for silent drive, zero-emission, electric off-road applications.
In close collaboration with leading fire service vehicle manufacturer Rosenbauer, Volvo Penta has developed an electric driveline for a new fire truck. The pioneering truck, nicknamed “Revolutionary Technology” (RT), features groundbreaking drive technology, vehicle architecture, operability and connectivity and is set to transform the fire service industry. To this the Volvo Penta electric driveline adds benefits such as zero exhaust emissions and significantly reduced noise levels. The RTs are presently being tested at fire departments in Berlin, Amsterdam and Dubai.Read the full story Visit Rosenbauer
