The product is available for diesel and gasoline engines with Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) in single and twin installations. It is also available for non-EVC gasoline engines from model year 2006 and non-EVC diesel engines from 2007 in single installations. For more information about compatibility, see the list:

What is Volvo Penta Easy Connect?
Volvo Penta Easy Connect gives you an overview of boat and engine data, route information and more, by linking your boat/engine – via Bluetooth® to your smartphone/tablet.

It consists of two parts, the Easy Connect Interface and the Easy Connect app.
What is the Easy Connect Interface?
The Easy Connect Interface is a hardware that must be installed in your boat to be able to view boat and engine data, route information and more in your Easy Connect app.

The connection between the boat/interface and the phone/tablet is done via a Bluetooth® connection.

The Easy Connect interface also includes NMEA2000 functionality. This means it can also be connected to an existing NMEA network within the boat. This enables you to access additional data from i.e. speed and depth sensors. In addition, the Easy Connect interface can be used to convert engine data into NMEA2000 compatible chart plotters/multi-function displays onboard.

The Easy Connect Interface can be purchased at any Volvo Penta dealer.

How do I share data/information?
The app has sharing functions in My Journeys to share your trips and Map to share your position via email, SMS, MMS and social media. Under Vessel Status you can share diagnostic trouble codes with your dealer via email. Access to the Internet is required to send the information.
I have a tablet without a SIM card; can I share data/information?
You must have access to the Internet to share information.
Can I download the Easy Connect app on multiple smartphones/tablets and display data from the same boat?
You can download the app to several smartphones/tablets at the same time, but only one smartphone/tablet can be paired with the interface at a time.
Does the Easy Connect app replace the boat dashboard?
Volvo Penta does not recommend the use of the app as a substitute of the boat dashboard. The boat dashboard always has top priority. Data from the app are a supplement to the dashboard.
Can I use the map in the Easy Connect app for navigation?
No, the app is not intended for navigation purposes. The map can be used to locate or share the position of your boat.
Does it cost anything to download or use the Easy Connect app?
The app is free of charge, but there can be operating charges for sharing information via the internet, SMS/MMS according to normal call rates or internet charges.
Why should I share diagnostic trouble codes with my dealer?
Easy Connect makes it possible to share diagnostic trouble codes with your selected Volvo Penta dealer, including; serial number, engine hours and installation information. This is a useful function when booking a service or inspection – allowing your dealer to prepare service and help more efficient. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your selected dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes. Note that diagnostic trouble codes are not available for engines with MDI, EVC A, B, C1 and C2.
How do I share diagnostic trouble codes with my dealer?
You can find diagnostic trouble codes in the Vessel Status view in the app. Tap on the email icon at the top right to send all diagnostic trouble codes or tap on a diagnostic trouble code and then 'send faultcode with email' to send each diagnostic trouble code separately. Information about your installation such as serial number and engine hours will also be shared. Access to the Internet is required to send the information. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your selected dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes. Note that diagnostic trouble codes are not available for engines with MDI, EVC A, B, C1 and C2.
How do I save my dealer's email address in the Easy Connect app?
You can add/change your dealer information in the menu view under Boat info – Dealer in the app. You can use the ‘Find dealer’ function to find Volvo Penta dealer contact information. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes.

Installation

What do I need to use Easy Connect?
To use the services offered by the Easy Connect app you need to install the Easy Connect Interface hardware in your boat and connect it to your Easy Connect app.
How do I install the Easy Connect Interface?
Plug in the Easy Connect interface directly into the EVC multilink at the helm station, or into the engine harness on non-EVC gasoline engines. For more information read the installation instructions that comes with the Easy Connect interface. Need help? Let a Volvo Penta dealer assist you with the installation.
Can I Install Easy Connect in vessels with triple or quad engines installation?
Easy Connect in triple or quad engine installations are not supported by the Easy Connect app, but you can use the Easy Connect interface as a NMEA2000 gateway.
How do I pair my smartphone/tablet with Easy Connect Interface?
Right now it has been discovered that Apple devices with iOS software 11.3 and onwards may have problems pairing with the Easy Connect interface. The problem may occur when trying to pair the devices:
  • iPhone 8 or later
  • iPad pro, iPad 5th generation or later
To solve the problem, visit your dealer with your Easy Connect interface and they will help you. The app will instruct you once you run it. First time you pair with the interface a six-digit Bluetooth® code is asked for. The code can be found on the on the Easy Connect Interface label. Make sure that the Bluetooth® function is activated on your smartphone/tablet and the boat ignition switched on. For Android: For some devices, you find the window for the Bluetooth® code in the notification panel. If you don´t find the Easy Connect interface in the list, go to Settings, choose Apps and then Easy Connect. Here you go to Permissions and turn on Location and Storage. The Bluetooth® code can be found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.
How do I update the software in the Easy Connect interface?
To update the Easy Connect interface, go to ‘Boat details’ in the menu to the left. Make shore that the Easy Connect app is connected to the Easy Connect interface. If there is a software update you will find it under ‘interface software’. Before starting the update, make sure the boat is safely moored, the engines turned off and ignition on. When the update is completed, restart the system to apply the changes.
Which smartphones/tablets are compatible with the Easy Connect app?
The Easy Connect app are available for iOS (Apple) and Android smartphones/tablets and can be found in App Store and Google Play under the name Volvo Penta Easy Connect. For iOS: The operating system version must be iOS 10 or later on Apple devices. For Android: The operating system version must be 5.0 or later for Android devices with Bluetooth® 4.2. To find your Bluetooth® version, please visit your smartphone/tablet website for more information.

Must I register to use the Easy Connect app?
No, but a code is necessary to pair your smartphone/tablet with the Easy Connect Interface. The code is found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.
Will the app switch on Bluetooth® on my smartphone/tablet?
No, if Bluetooth® is turned off a pop-up will inform you.
I cannot download the app on my smartphone/tablet; what could be wrong?
There can be several reasons why it is not possible to download the app. The following listed causes are the most common:
  • Your device does not have the right operating system. Versions iOS 10.0 or later on Apple and 5.0 or later on Android are supported.
  • Your device does not have enough capacity.
  • The internet connection is being poor or lacking.
I can not pair my smartphone/tablet; what could be the reason?
The Bluetooth® is not switched on you smartphone/tablet or there is interference in the Bluetooth® communication. Check the Bluetooth® communication in the Settings app on you smartphone/tablet and check the connection in the Easy Connect app under Boat Details.
Another way is to restart your smartphone/tablet and try to re-connect.

For Android: If you don´t find the Easy Connect interface in the list, go to Settings, choose Apps and then Easy Connect. Here you go to Permissions and turn on Location and Storage.


Diagnostics/Troubleshooting

Why is different information (speed, battery voltage etc.) shown in the app and in my vessel display?
The data can differ as it is received from different sources. Formatting may be another cause; the rounding of values may differ.
Why do the diagnostic trouble codes in the app and in my vessel display differ?
The information provided in the app can be more comprehensive even though the actual diagnostic trouble code is the same.
What does Vessel Status view show?
The Vessel Status view shows Connection status and diagnostic trouble codes information from the engine.
What do the LEDs on the Easy Connect Interface indicate?
There are two LEDs on the Easy Connect Interface – one green and one blue.
  • The green LED is lit constantly – the device has power but no communication either to the NMEA or the EVC/engine.
  • The green LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), flashes twice then off – the device has power and communications with the EVC/engine but not to NMEA.
  • The green LED flashes three times and then off (500 ms), flashes three times then off – the device has power and communications with NMEA but not with the EVC/engine.
  • The green LED flashes at regular intervals – the device has power and communications with both NMEA and the EVC/engine.
  • The blue LED is not lit – the Bluetooth® device (chip) interface is not working.
  • The blue LED is lit constantly – the Bluetooth® interface is not connected with the app.
  • The blue LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), blinks twice then off – there is a problem with Bluetooth® communication between interface and the app.
  • The blue LED flashes regularly – the interface and the app are connected and working.
Connection status is also presented in the app under Captain View in Vessel Status.
If I lose the NMEA/Engine/EVC connection, will the app detect this and inform me?
No notification pop-up will show. However, connection status can be viewed in the Vessel status view in Captains View. Also, you will notice that the values in the different views in the Easy Connect app will show.
If I lose Bluetooth® communication with the Easy Connect Interface, will the app detect this and inform me?
Yes, if the Bluetooth® communication is lost a pop-up notification ‘Bluetooth not available. Is Bluetooth turned on?’ will alert you.
Where do I find the serial number, part number and SW number on the Easy Connect Interface?
The serial number, part number and SW number can be found on the Easy Connect interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.


Data protection, data storage

Where can I find my Easy Connect Interface Bluetooth® code?
The Bluetooth® code can be found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.
Can I use the app if I buy a used boat with an Easy Connect Interface?
Yes, pair your smartphone/tablet with the Easy Connect app by entering Easy Connect Bluetooth® code. The code can be found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.
Can anyone else who downloads the app access data from my boat?
Yes, if they have access to your Easy Connect Interface Bluetooth® code and they are within Bluetooth® range.
Can I move my Easy Connect Interface to another boat?
Yes, it is possible to move and install it on another boat. Please see Easy Connect installation instruction.
Is my personal information stored anywhere?
All information is only stored locally in your smartphone/tablet.
Is the boat/engine's information stored anywhere?
Engine, boat, trip data and diagnostic trouble codes are stored locally in your smartphone/tablet. There is no central data storage.
