A proven concept
The exhaust aftertreatment technology chosen by Volvo Penta is Selective Catalytic Reduction, SCR, which ensures high engine power and efficiency while reducing NOx. We are leveraging our knowledge of SCR technology within Volvo Penta and the Volvo Group. Our IMO III solution has been adapted to demanding marine conditions, and tested extensively at our own facilities as well as in commercial customer applications – in total 35,000 hours at the launch in 2018.
A COMMITMENT TO EASE
With Volvo Penta, you benefit from the simplicity of a single-supplier offer. The type approved solution is developed, certified, monitored and maintained by one company. One complete system, including all functions. One point of contact. One common engine platform. One source of aftermarket support. One tool for service technicians. One interface for operators. Volvo Penta’s Marine Commercial expert, Jan Willem Vissers is your guide.
FLEXIBILITY AND INTEGRATION
THE IMO III RANGE
Volvo Penta offers IMO III for D13 in Volvo Penta IPS, Diesel Inboard, Marine Genset and Auxiliary applications. During the year 2020, Volvo Penta will extend the IMO III range with the D8 for Diesel Inboard, Marine Genset and Auxiliary applications. Both engines are designed to cope with high back pressure and high-sulfur fuel – up to 1,000 ppm. The exhaust aftertreatment system is tailored for a perfect fit. The SCR unit, also a silencer, reduces noise by up to 35 dBA. Volvo Penta has been able to fulfill IMO III targets while maintaining the same low fuel consumption. And thanks to SCR, the engine power output remains unaffected.
