To find out more about your installation, visit https://www.volvopenta.com/marineleisure/en-en/for-owners/your-engine/manuals---handbooks.html and type in your serial number. Under “specification” you can find information about your engine and installation.
You can also contact your Volvo Penta dealer who can help you to identify your engine’s compatibility with Easy Connect.
Volvo Penta Easy Connect gives you an overview of boat and engine data, route information and more, by linking your boat/engine – via Bluetooth® to your smartphone/tablet.
It consists of two parts, the Easy Connect Interface and the Easy Connect app.
The Easy Connect Interface is a hardware that must be installed in your boat to be able to view boat and engine data, route information and more in your Easy Connect app.
The connection between the boat/interface and the phone/tablet is done via a Bluetooth® connection.
The Easy Connect interface also includes NMEA2000 functionality. This means it can also be connected to an existing NMEA network within the boat. This enables you to access additional data from i.e. speed and depth sensors. In addition, the Easy Connect interface can be used to convert engine data into NMEA2000 compatible chart plotters/multi-function displays onboard.
The Easy Connect Interface can be purchased at any Volvo Penta dealer.
The Easy Connect app is capable of showing data provided by your engine, as well as information from additional sensors and functionality installed in your boat:

Volvo Penta ID is your personal account you need to be able to sign in and get access to the Volvo Penta cloud. You create a Volvo Penta ID the first time you open the app or by clicking on “connect” on the side menu and then “sign in”. To see if you can create a Volvo Penta ID in your country, read the question “Why do I not get the possibility to create a Volvo Penta ID?”
The Volvo Penta cloud is a server that makes it possible to synchronize data from “Home view”. It shows engine hours, fuel consumption, last known position and performed journeys. It is the “Home view” which is synchronized between phones/tablets when signed in on multiple phones/tablets with the same Volvo Penta ID. In addition, boat information, app settings, dealer e-mail address and user information are synchronized between phones/tablets.
To be able to create a Volvo Penta ID you need to have access to internet. You also need to be in one of the following countries because of legal aspects.
Bonare, Sint Eustatius, Saba
The British Indian Ocean Territory
The Cayman Islands
Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Republic of Cyprus
French Southern Territories
Heard Island and Mc Donald Islands
Isle of Man
Northern Mariana Islands

No, the app is not intended for navigation purposes. The map can be used to locate or share the position of your boat.
The app is free of charge, but there can be operating charges for synchronization with Volvo Penta Cloud sharing information via the internet, SMS/MMS according to normal call rates or internet charges.
Easy Connect makes it possible to share diagnostic trouble codes with your selected Volvo Penta dealer, including; serial number, engine hours and installation information. This is a useful function when booking a service or inspection – allowing your dealer to prepare service and help more efficient. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your selected dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes. Note that diagnostic trouble codes are not available for engines with EVC A, B, C1 and C2 and D1/D2 with MDI.
You can find diagnostic trouble codes in the Status view in Home View in the app. Tap on the email icon at the top right to send all diagnostic trouble codes or tap on a diagnostic trouble code and then 'send faultcode with email' to send each diagnostic trouble code separately.
Information about your installation such as serial number and engine hours will also be shared. Access to the Internet is required to send the information. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your selected dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes. Search for your manual and press on the manual you want to download. The manual will be downloaded, and you can find it in your “Manuals and Handbooks” menu at all time.
The app is available in the following languages:
To use the services offered by the Easy Connect app you need to install the Easy Connect Interface hardware in your boat and connect it to your Easy Connect app.
Plug in the Easy Connect interface directly into the EVC multilink at the helm station, or into the engine harness on non-EVC gasoline engines. For twin non EVC installations, one Easy Connect interface on each engine is needed. For more information read the installation instructions that comes with the Easy Connect interface.
Need help? Let a Volvo Penta dealer assist you with the installation.
Easy Connect in triple or quad engine installations are not supported by the Easy Connect app, but you can use the Easy Connect interface as a NMEA2000 gateway.
The app will instruct you once you run it. First time you pair with the interface a six-digit Bluetooth® code is asked for. The code can be found on the Easy Connect Interface label. Make sure that the Bluetooth® function is activated on your smartphone/tablet and the boat ignition switched on. Also make sure no one else is already connected to the Easy Connect interface and that it is your boat that you are trying to connect to.
For Android: For some phones/tablets, you find the window for the Bluetooth® code in the notification panel. If you do not find the Easy Connect interface in the list, go to Settings, choose Apps and then Easy Connect. Here you go to Permissions and turn on Location and Storage.
For more detailed information, please see the Installation Instruction.
To find the Easy Connect Interface software version you need to be connected or has been connected to the Easy Connect interface with the Easy Connect app. In the app you find the information on your boat menu under “Boat info” and “Easy Connect Interface software”. The latest version is 188.8.131.52.
To update the Easy Connect interface, go to your boat in the menu to the left. Make shore that the Easy Connect app is connected to the Easy Connect interface. If there is a software update you will find it under ‘interface software’. Before starting the update, make sure the boat is safely moored, the engines turned off and ignition on. When the update is completed, restart the system to apply the changes.
The Bluetooth® code can be found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app under Boat Details once you are connected.

No, but a code is necessary to pair your smartphone/tablet with the Easy Connect Interface. The code is found on the Easy Connect Interface label or in the app, in your boat menu, once you are connected.
To create a better experience, we recommend you to create a Volvo Penta ID and connect to the Volvo Penta Cloud.
No, if Bluetooth® is turned off a pop-up will inform you.
There can be several reasons why it is not possible to download the app. The following listed causes are the most common:
Your phone/tablet does not have the right operating system. Versions iOS 10.0 or later on Apple and 5.0 or later on Android are supported. Bluetooth 4.2 for android
Your phone/tablet does not have enough capacity.
The internet connection is being poor or lacking.
The Bluetooth® is not switched on you smartphone/tablet or there is interference in the Bluetooth® communication. Check the Bluetooth® communication in the Settings app on you smartphone/tablet and check the connection in the Easy Connect app in your boat menu. Another way is to restart your smartphone/tablet and try to re-connect or restart the app. See also “What do the diodes on the Easy Connect Interface mean? ”under Diagnostics/Troubleshooting.
For Android: If you do not find the Easy Connect interface in the list, go to Settings, choose Apps and then Easy Connect. Here you go to Permissions and turn on Location and Storage.
You create a Volvo Penta ID the first time you open the app or by clicking on “connect” on the sidemenu and then “sign in”. After that, you press on “Connect” and then you can choose to sign in with social media or you press on “register now” in the bottom of the page and follow the instructions to create a Volvo Penta ID.
To see if you can create a Volvo Penta ID in your country, read the question “Why do I not get the possibility to create a Volvo Penta ID?”
Are your device supported? See the question “Which smartphones/tablets are compatible with the Easy Connect app?”
Are your Easy Connect Interface updated with the latest software? See the questions “Where can I find my Easy Connect Interface software version?” and “How do I update the software in the Easy Connect interface?”
Can you connect to the Easy Connect interface? See the questions “How do I pair my smartphone/tablet with Easy Connect Interface?”, “I cannot pair my smartphone/tablet; what could be the reason?” and “What do the diodes on the Easy Connect Interface mean?”
Why do I not see any or partial data in the Easy Connect app? First of all make sure your phone/tablet is connected by checking the Bluetooth® communication in the Easy Connect app in the boat status menu. Also check the installation of the Easy Connect interface and the affected sensors. For more information, see the installation instruction.
Do you have other app issues, like the app crashes or synchronization between devices are not working? Try to delete and reinstall the app if the app crashes. If you have issues with synchronization you can see questions “Why do I not see the same information in all phones/tablets signed in to the same Volvo Penta ID in the Easy Connect app?” and “Why do I not see the same data in all my phones/tablets that uses the same account?”
The data can differ as it is received from different sources. Formatting may be another cause; the rounding of values may differ.
The information provided in the app can be more comprehensive even though the actual diagnostic trouble code is the same.
The Vessel Status view shows Connection status and diagnostic trouble codes information from the engine. Here you can also find notifications about Easy Connect.
There are two LEDs on the Easy Connect Interface – one green and one blue.
- The green LED is lit constantly – the device has power but no communication either to the NMEA or the EVC/engine.
- The green LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), flashes twice then off – the device has power and communications with the EVC/engine but not to NMEA.
- The green LED flashes three times and then off (500 ms), flashes three times then off – the device has power and communications with NMEA but not with the EVC/engine.
- The green LED flashes at regular intervals – the device has power and communications with both NMEA and the EVC/engine.
- The blue LED is not lit – the Bluetooth® device (chip) interface is not working.
- The blue LED is lit constantly – the Bluetooth® interface is not connected with the app.
- The blue LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), blinks twice then off – there is a problem with Bluetooth® communication between interface and the app.
- The blue LED flashes regularly – the interface and the app are connected and working.
Connection status is also presented in the app under Captain View in Vessel Status.
No notification pop-up will show. However, connection status can be viewed in the Vessel status view in Captains View. Also, you will notice that the values in the different views in the Easy Connect app will show.
Yes, if the Bluetooth® communication is lost a pop-up notification ‘Bluetooth not available. Is Bluetooth turned on?’ will alert you.
The serial number, part number and SW number can be found on the Easy Connect interface label or in the app, in your boat menu, once you are connected.
First of all make sure you have internet connection. Go to “Volvo Penta ID” in the menu and check that “Automatic synchronization” are switched on in all phones/tablets. If any of the phones/tablets are not connected to Wi-Fi, check that “Synchronization only in Wi-Fi” is not switched on. By pressing “sync now” on all your phones/tablets, you will get all information. If you still do not have all information in all phones/tablets, send an e-mail to email@example.com.
The reason is probably that the phones/tablets are not synchronized. Restart the app to solve the problem. If you still do not see that same data, go to the Volvo Penta ID menu in the Easy Connect app to find when you synchronized last time. You can press “synchronize now” if it is not synchronized to solve the problem.
Data protection, data storage
Yes, the journeys are stored in the Easy Connect interface when you don’t have a phone/tablet connected to the Easy Connect interface. If you run the app without a Volvo Penta ID, the data will only be stored locally in the Easy Connect Interface and on your phone/tablet.
If you have created a Volvo Penta ID, the information about you Volvo Penta ID and the data you synchronize to the Volvo Penta Cloud is stored.
Engine, boat, trip data and diagnostic trouble codes are stored locally in your smartphone/tablet. If you synchronize your data to the Volvo Penta Cloud when you are connected to the Volvo Penta ID, the data is stored in the Cloud as well.
The data are synchronized automatically when you are connected to internet and the Volvo Penta ID. You can also choose to synchronize only when you are connected to wifi. This is a setting you will find in the Easy connect app in the Volvo Penta ID menu. Here you can also synchronize manually by pressing “synchronize now” and you can also find when you synchronized last time.
When you connect your phone/tablet to the boat there will be a check if there has been any new journeys since the last time the tablet/phone was connected. If there are any new journeys, they will be sent to the phone/tablet and then to the Volvo Penta Cloud. This will only happen if you are connected to a Volvo Penta ID.
